Janodral Mizar
Geography
An ocean planet, the world of Janodral Mizar has only a few volcanic islands, and these never possessed any true flora or fauna of their own. The native Mizar make their homes deep beneath the storm-shrouded waves in reef and vent settlements upon the ocean floor. Most visitors to Janodral Mizar never go beyond either "Skytown" or the massive artificial island of Janodral City.
History
Despite it's prominent position on the Perlemian Trade Route, the relatively unimpressive system of Janodral Mizar managed to avoid notice for millenia. It was only recently (approximately 1,000 years ago), that the planet came to the attention of the cluster when it was discovered to possess native sentient life in the form of the primitive, crustaceous Mizar by a passing Sith cruiser during the New Sith Wars. The Mizar were discovered to be immensely strong, resilient, and of limited intellect. They were immediately enslaved by the Sith, who soon discovered another, added benefit to the colonization of Janodral Mizar. The jelly used by the Mizar to nourish and cocoon their young was, to humans and other humanoid races, a powerful narcotic capable of inducing a fearless, aggressive state. This jelly, called "Silt" by the early farmers, soon found a place in the increasingly desperate battle armies of the Sith.
After the destruction of the Sith armies by the resurgent armies of the Republic, the local Tionese nobles were quick to move in on the Sith operations on Janodral Mizar, and the largest island soon housed a constantly growing city of criminals, industrialists, slavers, and Silt "farmers".
Currently, there are nearly 500 million non-native inhabitants of Janodral Mizar, the a small, privileged percentage of whom live in Skytown, the luxury villas, resorts, hotels and casinos that drift across the surface of the perpetually stormy clouds on massive repulsorlift pads.
The vast majority of the world's immigrant population live in Janodral City, which most closely resembles a Coruscant Mega Block deposited into the storm wracked sea of the Mizar. Powered by deep geothermal vents, only the very tallest towers of Janodral City emerge from the perpetual cloud cover of the planet. The bulk of the city's columns and towers are lashed by the weather and sea of the planet and extend for kilometers from the surface of the ocean to the tops of the clouds. Within this forest of duracrete, glass, and steel are both enclosed and open gantries and walkways, hangers and hover platforms, malls, casinos, hotels, and slum-like apartments descending eventually into the ocean itself.
Beneath the waves, there are an estimate 800 to 900 million native Mizar kept in bondage, laboring to feed the geothermal power of the city above, mining the ocean floor for rich minerals and resources, and most importantly, farming themselves for the jelly-like "Silt" which is utilized in its cheapest grades as a narcotic and in its most refined as a stabilizer for organ replacement and cloning, and Zerthian, a powerful and commonly prescribed anti-depressant marketed by the biotech giant NuLife. The heart of the industrial production lies deep beneath Janodral City in the tunnels and bubbles called The Clutch.
